3 Simple Ways to Keep Your Cool This Summer

Keep Your Cool This Summer

Summers are long and hot in Plano, Texas, so if you’re struggling to stay cool, you’re certainly not alone! Fortunately, with proper air conditioning maintenance, you can escape the scorching heat and relish the air-conditioned chill. Here are a few simple ways to ensure your AC stays in top shape this summer.

Calibrate the Thermostat

Thermostats aren’t always accurate. Even if you calibrated your thermostat last year, there’s a good chance someone bumped into it at some point, or it got dusty; either of which can cause it to lose calibration. When this happens, clean it and recalibrate it according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

If your thermostat is still not working effectively, it might be time for an upgrade. Consider making the switch to a digital touch-screen smart thermostat, which allows you to control your home’s temperature from anywhere with your mobile device.

Check the Refrigerant

If your AC has been blowing hot air this summer, it might be low on refrigerant. Signs of low refrigerant are a build-up of ice on the refrigerant line or evaporator coils. A number of issues could be the cause, but ice on your AC is reason enough to call in a technician before it gets worse. Completely running out of refrigerant necessitates a costly repair.

Have the Ducts Cleaned

Even if your AC is in tip-top shape, it can’t compete against clogged, dirty ducts. While you can (and should) change your air filters every 1 – 3 months to keep your AC working at peak efficiency, a problem inside the ductwork is out of reach of all but professionals. Fortunately, a quick call to a professional HVAC company can resolve the situation. Once you have your ducts cleaned, you’ll notice a drastic improvement not only in airflow, but your energy bills too.
